Diagon Alley Adventures

Post by Rachel Everett on Sun Feb 24, 2008 8:46 pm

Okay folks, here it is at last...time to go to Diagon Alley! You will only be able to post in here until you've gotten up to this point in the summer...so let's hurry up, eh?

"Where are we going first?" Rachel asked as they casually strolled passed many of the shoppes that lined the streets of Diagon Alley. It was completely different from shopping with her aunt, because instead of going into stores where she knew she needed or wanted something, she wanted to go into every store to even look at what was inside.

"I think we should go to Gringott's, the Wizarding Bank. You brought your Muggle money, right?" Nodding, she held up the roll of bills before slipping it back into her bag. "Good, they'll be able to convert that while I go to my vault. Come on, Gringott's is this way." He added as she seemed distracted by the robes that were being showcased outside Madame Malkins'. "We can go there right after Gringott's, I promise." Rachel hurried to follow him as he waited for her at the top of the marble steps.

The red head gazed in wonder as they passed through the magnificient doors, shuddering somewhat at the inscriptions written upon them. "They certainly seem keen to scare off any unwelcome visitors," Harry agreed with this sentiment, and then escorted her up to a counter. The goblin there was named Smotsan, and he took Rachel's wad of bills with an expression of extreme distaste. Of course, as she glanced down the counters at all of the goblins, she realized they all seemed to have an expression of distaste about them. As he began counting out galleons, sickles, and knuts for her, Harry followed Lomak across the room to his vault.

"Your total, Miss Everett, is sixty galleons, five sickles, and eight knuts." Rachel tried smiling and wishing Smotsan a nice day, but the expression on his face caused her to shrink back rather quickly. Anxiously, she stepped away from the counter to allow another group of people up. Unsure of where to go, she walked over to the door where Harry had disappeared to get his own gold. Not soon after, Harry reappeared with his own money, and they two headed over towards Madame Malkin's, where Rachel, although she had expressed dislike for having to wear uniforms, was rather excited about getting new robes. Harry pointed this out as a typical girl trait, she didn't like what she was shopping for, but loved shopping for it anyways. Therefore, Rachel felt justified in whacking him upside the head.

Re: Diagon Alley Adventures

"Oof!" In a burst of green light, Katie Sanders crashed out of the fireplace, landing rather clumsily on her butt. "Owww..." she muttered, annoyed, "I hate floo powder."

From her position on the dirt floor, she could see that she was in a rather dingy looking building, dark, slightly frightening. But she knew, instinctively, that this place was nothing to fear. However, this didn't stop her from jumping about half a foot (quite an accomplishment, really, considering the fact that she was still sitting on her butt, having never actually bothered to get up), as another flash of green light startled her. Suddenly, Ron was standing right next to her, having managed to land somewhat more gracefully on his feet. He glanced down at his friend, giving a chuckle and smirk at her predicament.

"Nice." he commented rather sarcastically, but he reached a hand out to help her up. Katie glared at it for half a second before reluctantly allowing him to help her up. As Ron was pulling her up, there was another flash of green light, and Ginny emerged from the fireplace,

"Mum, Dad, Fred and George are meeting us outside,"
she informed the pair, "They've decided to apparate, the show offs."

Ron nodded, grinning at his sister, "I told Harry we'd all meet him somewhere around here; we never actually really got around to deciding the exact location, but I do know that he was bring a friend with him to buy school suppilies here as well."

Ginny looked briefly confused, "Harry's friend? You mean Hermione?"

Ron shook his head, "No, she's meeting us at the bookshop with her parents in a bit. Harry's friend is some girl who just moved in next door to him, and, from what I've heard, she'll be new to Hogwarts as well. I think her name's Rachel or something..."

"Oh, is she his girlfriend?" Katie asked, a slight smirk playing across her face.

Ron shook his head, though he was smirking as well, "No, Harry's been very adament about the fact that they're 'just friends'." But the amusement sparkling in his bright blue eyes told her that he too felt that perhaps something 'else' was happening between his friend and this new girl.

Ginny shook her head. "We should probably get going, the others will be waiting. And you know how Fred and George get when bored..."

Ron chuckled. "Right. Off we go!"
*****************
From Katie's perspective, Diagon Alley was HUGE, the biggest collection of wizards that Katie had ever seen in one place. She kept stopping to take in different sights and stores, much to the distain of Ron and Ginny, to whom the place was something of "old news". But their slight exasperation did not deter Katie from stopping to glance in the window of nearly every store.

By the time the three of them got to where the others were standing, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley had already managed to visit Gringotts and take out enough money to buy school suppilies for the rest of their family. After being assured by Katie that she'd already brought more than enough money with her, she bustled off to go get in line for school books, while the kids (meaning Katie, Ginny, Ron, Fred and George) headed over to a store called Madame Malkin's. Apparently, this was where Katie would be able to pick up her school uniform robes. Katie was quite appalled at the fact that she was going to be forced to wear the same thing as every other kid in her new school. Whatever happened to individuality?, She wondered, as the three of them stepped into the shop.

All the sudden, she heard Ron call out excitedly, "Hey, there they are! Harry! Harry!"

Re: Diagon Alley Adventures

Post by Rachel Everett on Thu Feb 28, 2008 12:45 am

As Rachel's robes were being hemmed around the neck, someone called out Harry's name. She was facing the mirror as Madame Malkin stuck the pointy objects-which she was slightly afraid of, she didn't like anything needle-like too close to her skin-and thus couldn't turn around to see who it was. In the mirror, she saw Harry's head jerk around halfway, and he smiled broadly. "Hi Ron," he greeted someone still out of the line of sight for the mirror. If not for fear of getting pricked by the needles, she wouldn't turned around to see Ron. Harry had mentioned him quite a bit, after all he was his best male friend, and she was quite eager to meet him. He had also said that Ron had met a girl over the summer-much like Harry had met her-and she might be coming with him. She had jokingly asked if they were an item, but saying it made her feel slightly weird, after all, she and Harry's situation was eerily similar, so she could only imagine they had been making the same comments about the two of them. However, Rachel had been used to this from her aunt and uncle, and could insist that nothing was going on between her and Harry, and nothing had even hinted at it, except for that one glance on his birthday, but that had been nothing...really.

Madame Malkin began working on the sleeves, so Rachel could twist slightly and get a glimpse of who Harry was talking to. She saw a short blonde girl, who she assumed to be Katie, standing next to someone, but the mirror blocked her view entirely. She could hear Harry talking from where he was standing to her right, and she began getting impatient. "Harry, aren't you going to introduce me?" she asked finally, as Madame Malkin began fixing her robes so she could turn around entirely. This time, she saw a crowd of people who could be her own cousins. Harry had mentioned that the Weasley clan all had red hair, like hers, only more vibrantly ginger, but you really have to see it to undertand how red it was. On Katie's left was a girl who looked younger than her, but was slightly taller, Ginny, most likely. And then on Katie's left was, of course, Ron-he was just as tall as Harry had grudgingly admitted. On either side of Ron and Ginny were twin boys, Fred and George. Rachel, of course, didn't know which was which, and highly doubted she'd ever be able to tell. Harry's head turned back towards her, and he grinned sheepishly at his friends.

"Sorry. George, Fred, Ron, Ginny...and Katie, was it? This is Rachel Everett, she moved next door to me over the summer so we've been hanging out." He gave the twins in particular a significant look, a secretive grin playing across his face, and added, "She's a much better companion than Dudley." Rachel laughed slightly, having gotten to know Dudley just enough to make her wish that someone would cheerfully strangle him in his sleep,, hopping down from the stool, as Madame Malkin had finished all of her hemming and seemed quite amused at the crowd of red haired people in her shop.

"That's hardly a compliment, you know, Harry."

Re: Diagon Alley Adventures

Post by Katie Sanders on Sat Mar 01, 2008 3:22 pm

Fred elbowed Harry out of the way, “Yeah Harry!”

George appeared on the other side of him, “Don’t you know the proper way to treat a lady?” he chastised.

Fred made a low bow, extending one hand out to Rachel and the other behind him, “It’s nice to meet your acquaintance, Miss Everett.”

Ron’s eyes widened, his face breaking out into a wide smirk as he wolf-whistled at the two of them, causing Katie to burst out into a fit of giggles. Ginny, however, looked mildly uncomfortable with the situation, which made Katie wonder if something had been going on with her and Harry. She normally would have thought Ginny had liked Fred based on her sudden discomfort, but he was Ginny’s older brother, and Katie therefore found this theory unlikely. At least, she certainly hoped it was… she shook her blond head, trying to rid herself of these rather unsavory thoughts. As she did so, she silently appraised Rachel and Harry.

Though a great deal shorter than Ron, Harry still appeared rather tall- but then, most people appeared rather tall to her 5’1”. His hair was dark, his face pale, and on his forehead was a lightning bolt shaped scar. Katie had known enough about English history to understand what that scar meant, and quickly looked away, not particularly wanting him to catch her staring. It’s probably the last thing he needs she thought to herself, turning her attention to Rachel.

She was taller than Katie, but a good deal shorter than Harry, with pale skin and some freckles, like Ginny. On the surface, she appeared to be happy, but dark circles under her eyes revealed that perhaps she hadn't been sleeping so well lately. I'll bet she's nervous too, thought Katie, who was oddly comforted by this. After all, it was nice to know that there were others in the room feeling similar things to her, in at least one way.

George's voice jolted her out of her reverie, "See, Harry?" he was saying, as Fred straightened up, "Now THAT'S how you treat a woman!"

She looked pleasantly flushed as Fred elbowed past Harry, and then his twin, George, joined him in insisting upon showing Harry how to treat a lady. Wondering just what this entailed, and feeling a bit nervous about the whole endeavor, Rachel settled for smiling and chuckling as Fred bowed low to her, holding out his hand and stating the pleasure he felt at making her acquaintance. She curtsied slightly, and took his hand, "The pleasure is all mine, Mr. Weasley." she giggled. Her giggles turned became slightly out of control as Ron wolf-whistled at the pair of them, and Katie was soon giggling away as well. Out of the corner of her eye, Rachel saw that Ginny seemed a bit uncomfortable, and Harry was glancing from her to Fred rather quickly, trying to assess the situation. She smiled at him, rolling her eyes a little, and for some reason he seemed to relax.

As she turned back to the Weasleys and their guest, she noticed that Katie seemed to be looking at Harry, as if appraising him. She wondered what this meant, but simply shrugged it off. After all, Harry was the Boy-Who-Lived, an incredibly famous figure, people most likely looked him up and down all the time. And yet she rather wished it wasn't another girl that did so. And then Katie did stop appraising Harry, and began glancing at her. She was actually looking at her rather closely, and she glanced away quickly, feeling embarassed. But as she turned, she noticed that Katie seemed pale for someone who had been spending a lot of time outside, and somewhat tired, and there was a nervous air about her. An instant wave of understanding came over Rachel, and she smiled at the blonde girl.

And then George made his presence known, insisting that what Fred had just demonstrated was how to treat a woman. "Thanks for teaching him, Fred, George. I'm afraid he's rather hopeless."

"Just because you're not talking to me doesn't mean I can't hear you." he grumbled.

Madame Malkin then appeared, and said, "I'm sorry to interrupt, but does anyone else need to be fitted?"

Re: Diagon Alley Adventures

Katie jumped slightly, not expecting the woman to appear suddenly behind her. She raised her hand, and then immeaditly felt completely stupid- she hardly ever raised her hand (which was frowned upon by some of her teachers), so why was she suddenly changing that policy. Her silent chatisement of herself made her blush and she muttered, "I'd like to be fitted."

Madame Malkin chuckled, as did Ron and the twins at her reaction, and then the woman said, "Follow me please, then. Quickly now, I'm expecting the rush to be in shortly." She led Katie over to some dressing rooms, had her step into the robes, and then forced her to stand on a podium. Katie was quite dismayed to discover that she couldn't see any of the Weasleys from her position.

All of the sudden, she heard the sound of Fred's voice coming from somewhere behind her, "Hey look! Isn't that Alicia and Angelina?" From the corner of her eye, Katie could see him pointing at some subject far off, which, from her current, rather annoying position, she was unable to see. "ALICIA! Angelina!" he shouted, waving.

Katie heard George laugh. "Come on Fred, let's go catch up with our lady friends!" She saw him grab Fred's outreached arm, and then heard the sound of the door to the shop opening, and George's farewell, "Sorry to ditch you, but, um, you're just not cool enough for us. Sorry." And then the door clicked shut, leaving a slightly incredulous Katie, a laughing Ron, and, from what Katie could see, a slightly exasperated Ginny. Katie rolled her eyes. If one thing was for sure, it was that life was never dull with the Weasleys and their friends.

[b]The red head chuckled when Katie raised her hand, although she knew she probably shouldn't. It was just a little amusing to see someone raise their hand seriously outside of a classroom. However, she cut off her chuckle when she saw Katie's blush, not wanting to overly embarass her. After all, she certainly knew what it was like to be in an embarassing situation. Like when your aunt catches you in a tree with tbe boy-next-door. It was innocent, of course, but it was made all the worse by the fact that your aunt believed it was going to become less than innocent as the summer progressed. Now, that was embarassing. And as she thought about it and glanced at the boy-next-door in question, she flushed a little herself and cleared her throat. Harry looked at her oddly.

"You all right?" he asked. This caused her to just nod and smile slightly, still slightly pink in the cheeks. Deciding to get herself out of there, she walked over to where Katie was getting fitted for her robes.

"Hope you don't mind I stand over here and keep you company, after all, I know what it's like not being able to see them." she said with a grin. It was then that the twins noticed two of their "lady friends" and dashed off after them, saying that she, Harry, Ron, Katie, and Ginny simply weren't cool enough for the two of them. "Well, there goes my admirers..."
